Erika Honoré grew up in rural North Carolina, attended Carolina Friends School and Westtown School,  graduated from Pomona College, then returned home for veterinary school at NC State University and graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health. She has a strong commitment to the Friends (Quaker) philosophy of education, which stresses development of the “whole child”- intellectual, physical, and ethical.  Erika worked as a large animal veterinarian for several years, running the Field Service at NCSU vet school, which involved taking students out to local farms to treat animals. From there she moved into clinical trials research at Wake Forest University, developing animal models for reproductive aging and heart disease, and teaching veterinary technicians. When her husband Gerard got a fellowship at the Health Science Center in San Antonio, she took a research position at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research. She currently works as an independent research consultant. She and her husband also own, teach and train at Xcalibur Martial Arts, a family-oriented martial arts school. Her family discovered Keystone when her son was entering 6th grade, and found it to be a perfect fit. Her son is now a graduate student in computer science. Her daughter, who joined Keystone in 4th grade, is a sophomore theater major in college.   Erika remains a firm believer in whole-child education, and strives to support Keystone in achieving its mission.
