Our Culture

Culture

Keystone is one of the most diverse schools among the 84 schools accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest. Many religions and ethnicities are well-represented and celebrated on campus, a fact repeatedly mentioned as a strength of our student body. This diversity seeps into our classrooms and creates a global outlook on lessons and events, such as Language Day. Well-informed and culturally aware, our students are prepared to succeed in new or unfamiliar environments. Today, Keystone’s diverse population is more than 55% non-Anglo.

Class Size

Intimate class settings are a definitive part of the Keystone experience. Small classes encourage close relationships between teachers and students both inside and outside of the classroom, and enable students to communicate openly and freely during class sessions. Grade sizes range from 28 to 38 in grades PK3-12. The size of class sections varies, but is usually in the 13-19 range. The student teacher ratio is 10:1.

Campus

Keystone is located in an urban neighborhood just north of San Antonio’s downtown business district. The school serves as the southern boundary of the historic Monte Vista residential area. Occupying most of a city block, Keystone’s eclectic and inviting campus comprises former mansions, carriage houses, and cottages supplemented by new facilities. Shaded by large oak, pecan, and magnolia trees, the campus provides a unique and safe setting that is conducive to learning. The close proximity of Trinity and Incarnate Word universities adds to the collegiate ambiance in the area.

Accreditation

The Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) accredits Keystone School. This organization is approved by the state to accredit private schools and currently represents 82 schools in 6 states and Mexico. Keystone School and ISAS are affiliated with the National Association of Independent Schools.
