What Do People Think?
Human genetic engineering is
a very controversial subject. Many people believe that is too
risky. Because of the cons that were explained in the "Pros and
Cons" page, many
people are opposed to genetic engineering. Some
people believe that by using these methods, scientists are
essentially fulfilling the Nazis' dream of a perfect race. Many
religious people believe that genetic engineering is basically
putting the job of God in human hands. It is very offensive to
those people. Also, people believe that when cloning, a type of genetic
engineering, is done, the new body does not have a soul.
The
United States government does fund stem cell research which is in the field
of genetic engineering. In 2001, President Bush cut down on the
funding
research of stem cells. Stem Cell research has been highly
publicized in the past few years.
Throughout the rest of the world there are some countries that
have accepted genetic engineering and there are some that have
not. In Great Britain, it is very controversial just like it is
in the United States. Genetic engineering is encouraged in
countries like China and Brazil. |
