According to Popgadget, there should be a typed of solar powered car that will be coming out very soon, probably with in the next year. The car was created to participate in the 2007 World Solar Challenge. It is supposed to be able to reach speeds of up to 44 mph, not enough to be highway legal, but still a pretty good figure for a first model.

    The car will probably be the first of many to follow. Venturi is currently manufacturing a car that should also be released in 2008. The car features the ability to not consume any fossil fuels or generate any emissions while being aerodynamically designed, putting it up there as one of the most energy efficient cars. It is also completely street legal.
