Solar Power
Solar power is generated by a solar cell, other wise known as a photovoltaic cell. The solar cell uses a technology called photovoltaics to generate the electricity. Basically photons hit the solar cell and are absorbed by semi-conducting materials. This causes the electrons to be knocked loose, so they start to flow. It is this flowing that generates electricity.

The technology of photovoltaics was originally discovered by Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel in 1839, but it was not until 44 years later that the first cell was built by Charles Fritts. It did not work well, but it led the way to many more different types of solar cells.

The availability of solar power is the important thing. The amount of power that we could generate is nearly infinite. The sun is the only thing needed to be able to generate solar power. Solar power is only limited to how long the sun lasts, while oil and other alternate fuels are in supplies that won't last nearly as long as the Sun.
