Setting Up Marking Column Calculations

This section provides information to teachers about setting up marking column calculations and assigning marking column calculations to classes. The Supervisor controls whether teachers can create their own calculations, must assign supervisor-defined calculations, or automatically use supervisor-defined calculations. If the Supervisor requires teachers to automatically use supervisor-defined calculations, teachers do not assign calculations to their classes and the Assign Calculations page does not appear.

You can set up a marking column average to calculate based on other marking column grades. For example, you can create a Semester 2 Average calculation to calculate the Semester 2 marking column average based on the Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 marking column grades.

  1. In the Factor column, enter the percentage of each marking column in the calculation. For example, enter 50 as the factor for both Quarter 3 and Quarter 4. The percentage of each marking column in the calculation is determined by dividing each marking column factor by the sum of all the factors. In this example, the sum of the factors is 100. Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 final grades are each 50/100 or 50% of the Semester 2 Average calculation.

Enter factors for each marking column included in the calculation. The percent is calculated in the Percent column when you leave the Factor column.

  1. To save the marking column calculation, click Save.
