3rd graders win Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award

Congratulations to third-graders Jack, Colton, and Matthew.

They won Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy from the San Antonio chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, for their work founding a company that sells handmade potato chips.

Little Salt Guys Co. creates gourmet, handcrafted chips from organic potatoes in multiple flavors with all proceeds going directly to charity. Their goal was to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk in honor of their friend and classmate, who has been battling leukemia for over two years. They started with a goal of raising $50, and soon passed more than $1,200, for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

In his recommendation letter, Mr. Handmaker wrote: “They have demonstrated a compassion for others, an ability to create a concept, a willingness to work long and hard to realize their vision, and passion for making a difference in the lives of people who are suffering.”
