9th Grade English places historical fiction in context

For the first work in 9th grade English, students are reading the historical novel, “A Lesson Before Dying,” by Ernest J. Gaines.

But before they dive into the text, Dr. Lawrence asked them to research the historical context of the Jim Crow South.

He divided the students into groups and each team delivered presentations.

Their questions and discussions are inspiring.
