Science magazine spotlights bee research of Sean Leonard ’02
The Jan. 30 issue of Science magazine features research from Sean Leonard ’02 on bees.
The issue includes a research paper on a project in which he leads a team to genetically alter the bacteria inside the gut of honey bees, with the aim to improve the health of bees.
He led a team at UT Austin that engineered a bacterium found in the gut of a honeybee to make the bee more resistant to a parasitic mite that carries harmful microorganisms.
