Second graders raise money for Ukrainian refugee relief
A huge note of congratulations to the students of Second Grade, who raised $1,450 selling handmade bracelets in a week to donate to World Central Kitchen, an organization that is providing fresh food and hot meals to Ukrainian refugees.
The effort began when students discussed the events in Ukraine and started brainstorming ways they could help.
To show their support, they made themselves yellow and blue bracelets during recess which then gave them the idea to sell bracelets to other students at school. From there, students Mila, Dylan, Lily, Elena, and Sofia met with Lower School Head Mrs. Matthews to present their proposal for a fundraiser.
It grew into a project that involved students, parents and lots of help from teachers Mrs. Trivizo and Mrs. Cook. Students spent several weeks making bracelets during recess and at home, including bracelet making playdates.
World Central Kitchen provides meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.
